National Croquet Day Sunday 5th June

ncdx
National Croquet Day (NCD)
Sunday 5th June 2016
Public Invitation
Come and try The Croquet Experience at Ember on National Croquet Day.  Members of the club will be here from 11am to 4pm  to welcome you and show you how to play.
Croquet: a sport with that competitive edge
Croquet: a game of skill that anyone can play
Croquet: try something new!
All you need to bring are a sense of fun and a pair of flat shoes (e.g. trainers).
National Croquet Day celebrates this interesting and addictive game that is increasing in popularity.
Croquet is a sport where you hit a ball through a series of hoops with a long mallet. It needs skill and tactics rather than brute strength, so men and women, young and old, play on equal terms using an effective handicapping system that allows beginners to challenge much better players.
Association Croquet (AC) and Golf Croquet (GC) are the main codes, each with its own demands and skills and much in common, especially that competitive edge! AC includes a variety of shots and break-building tactics to encourage scoring multiple hoops in a turn, whilst GC interactively contests each hoop, often with spectacular hoop shots and distant ball clearances.
The UK has a friendly and vibrant croquet scene with several world champions and world top-10 players.
Come along to Ember on Sunday 5th June between 11am and 4pm and have a go!

Bowls Social Evening

On Saturday Ember hosted a hardy band of bowlers who braved the cold to come down to the clubhouse to listen to music, eat, drink and have a good chat to see what everybody had been up to during the closed season. A great night!
Thanks especially to the members who cooked, organised, manned the bar, washed up, dished out the food and drove out to the takeaway for a lovely Indian curry!

Tennis Coaching courses for adult beginners

13767065664_34ed99a9ae_o
Currently there are two Tennis Xpress coaching sessions run each week for adult beginner / improvers on Tuesdays 10-11.30am and Saturdays 1.30 – 2.30pm (on courts 6 and 7). These sessions have been arranged as part of an initiative to attract new adult members. Players use green balls – a low compression tennis ball that helps novice players to develop their skills more quickly. If any member is interested or knows an adult who may be interested to join one of these groups, they should contact Rob Blundell (tennis.blundell@gmail.com).
To develop this initiative, there is now a green ball mix-in for adult beginner / improvers on Tuesday evenings at 7.30-9pm. This is a session without coaching to allow inexperienced players to practise with each other.

When you get back you can reward yourselves with tea and cakes. There will be prizes for all the successful sleuths. Bring friends and family – the more the merrier.
