Tennis Mix-Ins Are Back!

Great news, the Ember Tennis mix-ins are back, restarting on Monday 27th July on our normal weekly program.

Sue Wells

Water on full please!

During these hot, dry days, please would anyone watering lawns, hedges, plants at the club, please make sure you turn the tap on full.

As you may know, we have an irrigation system on site allowing us to collect and distribute our own water. This keeps mains water supply usage to a minimum.

There are several access points to this water. It may be tempting to reduce the flow but unfortunately this can cause the water pump to overwork itself and blow a fuse!

Thanks for reading this, and if you know of volunteers who may not see it, please ask them to turn the tap on full to stop this problem occurring. It can take valuable time to fix and in the meantime there will be not water at all.

Many thanks

We are looking for a member to help promote the tennis section on social media.  If you feel able to help, please let Sue know on (sue.wells@btinternet.com).

TENNIS SUBSCRIPTIONS FOR 2020

This is the time of year that we have to set the subscription level for the coming year.  The club, as many of you know, is running at a small deficit and has put the club part of the subscription up £4.  The tennis club has invested in 4 new courts and floodlights in the last year, and despite getting a substantial pay out from the insurance company, have a much reduced sinking fund and much larger maintenance costs for the courts, especially the clay courts.  We have taken the difficult decision to raise the tennis subscription (there was no raise last year) by the price of a pint (2 pints at the club bar) for the year. This does work out at only 10.7p per week over the year.  I do hope you will all understand and continue your membership.

PLANS FOR 2020

The committee has met recently to discuss the coming year.  We have several ideas in the pipeline, but would welcome your feedback and ideas on these items, or any further events or suggestions you have.  Please email me or talk to me if you have any great ideas, or just some comments – sue.wells@btinternet.com.  We would particularly like to hear what social events you would be interested in?

  1.  Increase member participation in free coaching, mix-ins, and social events
  2.  Develop parent and child session, maybe on a Sunday afternoon
  3.  Possible social events – Ladies evening (Indian theme again?), Spring event for members, Bank holiday tournaments, Christmas tournament and party, BBQ
  4. Club tournament (doubles partners to change after 2 wins in a row)
  5. Continue free drills session for members

The Ember Players present “Bothered and Bewildered”

“Bothered and Bewildered” is a bittersweet comedy about two daughters whose mother, Irene, is living with Alzheimer’s disease. While the girls are losing their mum in spirit (if not in body), Irene is forming a new relationship with an invisible companion, the late romantic novelist Barbara Cartland, who helps her write a ‘memory book’ revealing profound secrets she has never shared – even with
her family.

The Ember Players are linking with ‘Homelink’ for this play, a Twickenham based charity staffed by nurses and dementia-trained volunteers to provide a safe, positive environment for patients on a regular basis.

🎭 The Ember Players production of “Bothered and Bewildered” is playing at The Cecil Hepworth Playhouse, Walton on Thames, from Thursday 2nd to Saturday 4th May at 8pm.

🎟 Tickets are £13 and are bookable via www.ticketsource.co.uk/emberplayers or by phoning 07752-655087.

Get your tickets for the Ember 200 club!

Numbers may now be purchased for Ember’s 2019 “200 Club” which starts on 1st January.  All profits will go to Ember Sports Club and during 2018  I am delighted to report that, thanks to our members’ generosity,  a total of 198 tickets were purchased and we raised over £1,000.  Our most sincere thanks to all those many members who have participated!
For 2019 the basis of the allocation of the prize money will remain the same as for 2018.  There will be three prizes for each draw and draws will be made bi-monthly, the first one being made in February.  The total prize money for 2019 will be paid on the same basis as the present system (50% of the revenue). Thus if 200 numbers were purchased the pay-outs would be as follows (N.B. the prize value would be decreased or increased proportionately if fewer or more numbers are sold):
5 bi-monthly draws (February, April, June, August, & October) with prizes of:
1st    £100
2nd     £50
3rd     £20

1 Jackpot draw at Christmas with prizes of:
1st    £200
2nd   £100
3rd     £50

Do please support the Ember 200 Club –  the cost equates to just £1 per month per number purchased.  If you would like to have a particular number(s) please indicate this on the form.  If this number(s) has already been sold you will be allocated an alternative number(s). The sooner you apply the more likely you are to have your choice of numbers!  And the good news is that there is no limit to how many numbers you can buy!
An application form is attached which please complete and return to me with your payment (either cash or cheque payable to “Ember Sports Club 200 Club” please).  If you have any queries please telephone me on 020 8398 4622 or e-mail me on malcjen@ntlworld.com.
